Long time, no see
After our team holiday party (more on that another time), I found myself in Redwood City to help fix my sister’s Tivo. As I was walking to the train afterwards, I realized I would be remiss to not stop at Seasonal Sushi, where I ate about once a week when I lived in Redwood City. When I called in my takeout order (giving no identifying info besides one of my favorite orders), the lady said “long time, no see” and asked how I had been. I’ve always wanted to be a regular at a restaurant and be able to order “the usual” and have them know what I mean. While I don’t always get the same thing at Seasonal, and thus can’t get a “usual” there, being recognized over the phone after not eating there for 6 months is pretty darn close.

Tuesday I stopped by the bank to make a word deposit, which I’ve been doing a lot lately, and had to use the second lane instead of the commercial lane closest to the teller windows. My usual teller gave me this look and we had a little conversation via gestures before he came on the intercom and complained that I’d just gone in that line to make it harder for him. I demanded to know why he’d let someone else use my lane (there was a car there already), and he promised to put up a sign for me. And the stupid little exchange made my day. I find it generally irritating to have to go to the bank of often after work, but whenever I get there and one of my usual tellers gives me that smile of I-recognize-you, it’s instant happy.
So, yay for your sushi lady!
